The Declaration of Truth.

I can't out-willpower a morning. I say what's true before I feel it. Thirty-six lines about God and about me, out loud, every morning — before the phone, before the kids, before the ball. Then the three nights that get me out of bed to say them.

At 34 I looked in the mirror and didn't like the dad looking back. Forty pounds heavier. Six years sick. Comfortable, and small.

What changed it wasn't a plan. I started saying what's true about God, and about me, every single morning. Out loud. Before I felt it. Until I believed it. And I won the night before so I'd be up to say it.

Three years later I played for Team USA at a World Cup in Germany. It's not too late.
